Abe, the newest member of the family.
Having a dog is a ton of fun. So much fun, that I can't help but take pictures of every moment! I'm also discovering all sorts of fun places in the city that I hadn't ever explored before (okay, mostly dog parks).
In the first few days on motherhood, still getting the hang of picking up poo.
My boys at Lincoln Park. All dogs can play leash free!
Our first family photo. Hanging out at Hill Country Backyard BBQ. Great food, live music, and lots of dogs!
Conveniently, Brent lives right by Unleashed. They have a dog bath station. Abe was a bit unsure about it.. In the end, I don't think he's a huge fan of taking a bath.
Anybody who knows me, knows that I LIVE for birthdays. I love celebrating birthdays. Maybe it's a selfish thing, because I expect everybody else to go crazy for my birthday (May 14- don't forget it!), or maybe it's just my love for cake and balloons. June 24 was Brent's 25th birthday, so we obviously needed to do something big. Something big meant surprising Brent at Flight Trampoline Park! He thought we were just headed to a nice dinner, but instead we drove out to an indoor trampoline place. We were the oldest people there, and we had a blast! It was exhausting, but we had so much fun!
Little did I know, Brent had never stepped foot on a trampoline before. He looks a bit scared here, but he got the hang of it!
The Saturday after his birthday was time to celebrate. We started by taking Abe to Shirlington Dog Park. He absolutely loved it. He made tons of friends, and loved getting to run through trees and splash in the water.
Abe making friends at Shirlington Dog Park in Arlington. It's our favorite park. Lots of trees, great socialization, and fun splash area where the pups (or people) can cool off!
Snapped this picture at Shirlington Dog Park. Not sure who had more fun- Abe or Brent!
After the dog park, it was time to party. Brent's new house has an awesome backyard. We grilled hot dogs, burgers, chicken, and veggies. We also set up a beer pong table and played some "corn hole." Apparently I'm really weird because I've always thought it was called Baggo. I googled it; both are right. It just comes with the territory when you're a southerner stuck in Washington, DC. When trying to come up with fun things to make Brent's big day special, all I could think of were tshirts. The Brent T-Shirt was born. He had no clue all of us would be wearing them at the party, and when Abe and I came down the stairs in our shirts, he cracked up. Mission accomplished.
And of course, we can't forget how festive Abe looked as soon as the clock struck midnight, and his dad turned 25. Happy birthday Brent!
One thing I thought I was losing for good when moving from Arkansas to the big city was time spent in the great outdoors. Hiking, going to the lake, playing in the river, camping... all things I thought I was giving up when I moved to DC. Luckily for me though, Brent's mom lives a few hours outside of the city, down in Virginia. It's the perfect place to getaway and go play in the dirt. Abe had a blast while we were there. He played with other dogs, splashed around in the pond, and got lots of love.
Abe taking a leap!
That's all I really have for now. As for the new job, we're working on putting together an amazing field program to win the youth vote in November. It's so exciting to be apart of such a great organization, and I'm really lucky to go to work everyday and feel really passionate about what I do!
