Remember: Flowers should be watered.
Then I decided to be a food truck connoisseur. Right by my office are two parks that are always packed with food trucks. I started going everyday, getting Korean tacos, Italian meatballs, and all sorts of things. I followed all the trucks on Twitter, started checking foodtruckfiesta.com every morning to plot my lunchtime plan of attack, and obsessing over CapMac, this truck that serves amazing macaroni and cheese with meatballs. (Seriously, you should try it.) Once I'd tried every taco truck DC has to offer (and gotten a bit burnt out), I was over it pretty fast.
Music was next. Brent loves all these random bands, so I decided to beat him to it, and find concerts at all these awesome venues. Though the only concerts I knew about before him were Miley and Brad Paisley, I was still down to rock out to some jams. From concerts a U Street Music Hall to 9:30 Club, anytime something came up I said yes. We even made it to a Phish concert out a Merriweather Post Pavilion!
Phish Concert with Brent!
Once I realized that rock concerts on a Tuesday night made for an exhausting Wednesday, and learned how expensive a beer and a concert ticket cost, it was time to find something else.
Brunch it is. Throughout the whole 'finding myself' process, I was slowly eating and drinking my way around the bottomless brunch specials of DC. My running joke is that I drink so many mimosas to prevent scurvy, but I really can't think of anything nicer than sitting around with a group of friends, drinking delicious mimosas (and maybe a bloody mary every once in a while!) and enjoying the most important meal of the day! Picky eaters or breakfast haters can get a sandwich, and everybody leaves perfectly happy and tipsy. Even better, brunch on a patio means the pups are invited! Abe loves watching mom drink mimosas, and likes it even more when he's lucky enough to get a few pieces of bacon!
As a useful tip for my fellow brunch lovers, I'm putting together a list of some of my favorite brunch spots in DC. If you know of some that I need to try, let me know! I'd love some new spots to check out!
Bistro Cacao: Adorable French restaurant right on the Hill! The staff is wonderful and quick to fill up a drink. I highly recommend the omelette! They even give you these amazing bread baskets before the meal!
Sequoia: Most beautiful location in the city. Sit outside on a nice day and watch the boats pass. There's an incredible selection of food, including super nice guys who make you a custom omelette or pasta dish. There's also tons of dessert and a raw bar. Be careful though, the floors are super slick (I may or may not have busted it a few times).
Front Page: Great food, fast refills, and perfect to drag the boyfriend to. He can watch sports at the bar while you make your own waffles (and then smother them with fresh fruit).
Union Pub: This one made the list purely for the Hangover Sandwich, by far the best thing on the menu. Across the street from Bistro Cacao, it's right on Capitol Hill. Great outdoor seating with TVs (bring it on football season), and the sandwich is just to die for. I've also had friends say the french toast and the chicken and waffles are great, but the first time I went I got the Hangover Sandwich, and will never order anything else ever again. Ever.
Abe checking out the happy hour specials at Union Pub.
Zengo: This is hands down one of the most dangerous and delicious brunches in the entire DMV area. Go with a group of friends to make it worth you while. It's bottomless food and and drinks, and you can choose from all sorts of drinks, not just the boring ol mimosa. The food is a blend of Latin and Asian food, and because it's bottomless, last time I went, we ordered the entire menu. I got to taste every single thing on the menu, and all of it was amazing. They even brought us a bottle of champagne! If you have nothing else to do with you day, go early, stay late, then go home and sleep it off.
And in case you were wondering, yes, I splurged on this shirt. And yes, I plan on wearing it every Sunday for the rest of forever. I can't get enough of the Show Me Your Mumu clothes, and my favorite boutique, Riffraff, even carries it! Win win!
