8 Sexist and Condescending Posts from Cosmopolitan THIS MONTH

Cosmopolitan said that the College Republican National Committee produced “The Most Condescending Political Ad Ever.”

But Cosmo has proven time and time again that not only are they beyond sexist, they take the cake when it comes to being condescending toward their readers.

1.  13 Naked CollegeEvents You Don’t Want to Miss (NSFW)

Working at the College Republican National Committee, I get to spend a lot of time with college students. An event they don't want to miss? Election Day. Test day at school. Probably Thanksgiving. But no, the delusional people at Cosmo think all college kids are obsessed with sex and nudity. They're not. College students have varying interests, including things outside the bedroom.

2. This Hilarious Makeup Tutorial Explains Why It's So Important for Women to Vote This Year
Apparently comparing raising taxes to expensive dresses is sexist and condescending, but comparing voting to putting on make-up is acceptable? Not only is this condescending to female voters who know the importance of voting, but it's also extremely hypocritical. Oh, and also, the stats are wrong. So there's that.

3. 15 ~*sExY*~ Ways to Dress Like Your Favorite Children's Book for Halloween
Cosmo spends a lot of time discussing how women are constantly degraded, yet they want you to wear a red bra and panties and be Little Red Riding Hood this Halloween. Dress how you want on October 31, but where is the "15 ~*sExY*~ Halloween Costumes for Dudes" article? Isn't is pretty sexist to assume women want or need to show all their skin on Halloween? Why not "15 ~*cLeVeR*~ Halloween Costumes That Show Off How Smart You Are"? Maybe I've read something in the past 20 years that isn't Goldilocks. Why not help me dress up as a character from a book that's not made for kindergarteners?

4. 14 Intimate Portraits of Real Men
Sexism once again from Cosmo. Pictures of nude men somehow are "intimate portraits" seen as "beautiful and unsettling." But Cosmo uses the exact same images of nude or scantily clad women who don't get any recognition at all. They aren't haunting, illuminating, or beautiful. To Cosmo, when women are pictured this way, there's nothing special about it, that's just how women are. That is sexist.

5. The #CosmoVotes Party Bus Is Coming to NC State University
Comparing voting to a wedding dress is considered sexist and condescending, but assuming the only way to get young people involved and wanting to vote is to bribe them with "snacks, swag, and models" is perfectly fine? Students at North Carolina State University are probably more concerned with the 18.8% youth unemployment and the average student loan debt being $23,893. Don't think that these shirtless male models will be swaying any voters.

6. 20 Things Every Girl Does But Will Never Admit
BREAKING: Cosmo thinks all women pick their noses, cry alone for no particular reason, and are self-obsessed enough to spend twenty minutes posing for picture just to post it on Instagram. News flash! Women aren't a bunch of cookie cutter Facebook stalkers who are all obsessed with chocolate and Beyonce. It's sexist, offensive, and disgusting to assume that we are.

7. Hot Male Models Rap About the Midterm Elections
Cosmo refers to these guys as "Hot Male Models," but if you watch the video, you'll see that they are just strippers attempting (and failing) to rap the words "Your vote is your voice" over and over again. This the sexist, condescending way Cosmo is encouraging young, female voters. I'm going to vote because issues like taxes, health care, and foreign policy are important to me, not because these guys are unbuttoning their shirts and swaying me. It's offensive that Cosmopolitan and their besties (the Democrats) continue this disgusting #WarOnWomen, and think that posting things like this will help them to relate to young voters. We're better than that Cosmo.

8. 17 Life Goals Every Twentysomething Is Proud to Achieve
Somehow Cosmopolitan thinks the best way to gain readers is by offending them. Their targeted audience is female 'twentysomethings.' However, they post articles making all of us seem stupid and uneducated. Never once have I said "Oh my god, I even have a 401(k)!!! Wait, what's a 401(k)?" That's because although I may only be 23 years old, I'm intelligent. I don't talk like a vapid Valley Girl, and I can handle things like finances. (Also on this list, "Buying a new mattress. One you haven't thrown up on." What?)

Sadly, these are just a few of the post the magazine has shared online in October alone. Every day there's a new post about which sexual acts you must do to please a man, how to dress so you don't look "cheap", and biased one sided articles that don't inform voters on candidates or issues, just one Cosmo's opinion.

Cosmopolitan will probably continue to talk down about well thought out, focus group approved, proven to work political ads, and I'll just keep being a proud, conservative feminist who doesn't listen to liberal bias.
